 | TechnologySpyware Taking Over | The internet is a corrupt and dangerous place for computers. Is the answer education, simpler and safer technology, government regulation or something else entirely? (04/20/04) | | cached | submitted by mark |

How do you people survive?
I was with a client yesterday in a coffee shop. We had our laptops out and I noticed he had about a dozen system tray icons running. Being the geek I checked out what was running on his machine. There were at least three spyware payloads on it. I started to remove them one by one and then I clicked the automaticUpdate thing. He had never run it. He's a smart guy, so I educated him about that handly little program.
He must not have a resident geek in his neighborhood or he just hasn't had a major problem yet, but from what I saw on his laptop he wasn't far from one.
My thinking is that there is just too much sotfware these days. There needs to be less. Less software equals less vulnerabilities.
